Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS)- EEPS 457 and CHBE/EEPS 657 (Spring 2025)
This course is designed to enable the student to gain an in-depth understanding of the state-of-the-art technologies used in carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS). Topics to be covered include the role of CCUS in the energy transition, engineering basics of CO2 capture, transportation, and subsurface storage in saline aquifers, CO2 utilization in enhanced oil recovery in oil and gas reservoirs and conversion to useful chemicals, geologic characterization and CO2 subsurface storage capacity estimation, post-injection CO2 monitoring techniques, application of CCUS in the decarbonization of the power, steelmaking and cement industries and subsurface CO2 storage as CO2 hydrate.
